I knew this was her name the second we found out we were having another girl. We continued to play what Randall called “The Name Game” because it’s fun, but we always came back to Marigold. I have long loved it and it has special meaning. My Ma’s name is Mary and we wanted to honour her and the significance of her in our lives. My love of gardening began as a child planting Marigolds each summer with my Dad. He taught me how wonderful it can feel to get your hands dirty. And whenever I smell marigolds I think of him. Her middle name, James, is Randall’s Grandfather’s name and was given to Randall (the eldest of his siblings) as a middle name. Because we will not be having any more children (for real, this time), we wanted to pass that middle name on to our daughter to honour his Grandfather and their family legacy.

I’ve shared before about my terribly indecisive nature and the enormous responsibility I feel when naming a child, but this one was a no brainer. We settled on it early on and even planted marigolds this summer at the cottage in anticipation of her arrival.

And just like with Bea, as soon as we met her we knew her name suited her just perfectly.

Welcome to the world, sweet Marigold.

(And as many of you have pointed out, it is serendipitous that she was born Golden Globes Sunday, she really is a Goldie Graham)

Big Love,

Danielle, Randall, Big Sister Bea, and Marigold
